Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Brandon had an population of 24,273 people. This is an increase of 11.83% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 47.68% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Brandon had a population of 21,705 people (which is 15.33% of the total population of Rankin County). This makes Brandon the county's 2nd most populous community.

The population of Brandon represents 0.73% of the population of Mississippi (which has 2,967,297 people), making it the state's 19th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 21,705 people, the population of Brandon increased 32.06% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 16,436 people).

We originally found mention of Brandon in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Brandon was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Brandon post office opened in 1829.

We also found Brandon in the book titled U.S. Post Offices (Oct. 1846).
