At the time of the 2010 Census, Portage had a population of 46,292 people (or 18.49% of the total population of Kalamazoo County). This makes Portage the county's 2nd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 46,292 people, the population of Portage increased 3.11% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 44,897 people).
