At the time of the 2010 Census, Wamego had a population of 4,372 people (or 20.12% of the total population of Pottawatomie County). This makes Wamego the county's most populous community.

The population of Wamego represents 0.15% of the population of Kansas (which has 2,853,118 people), making it the state's 66th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 4,372 people, the population of Wamego increased 2.97% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 4,246 people).

We originally found mention of Wamego in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Wamego was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Wamego post office opened in 1866.

We also found Wamego in the book titled List of Post Offices in the United States (1870).
