Welcome to Elk ...

So far, we found very little information about Elk. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Elk to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Elk - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Elk, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Elk , we believe that it would have been located within present day Chase County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Elk, you might consider that their post office opened in 1874.

The location where Elk once stood is in the (620) area code.

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are 17 communities that are also named Elk - they are located in Alabama, Arkansas, California (2), Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Washington, West Virginia (2) and Wyoming.

Adding Elk to Our Gazetteer ...

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Elk was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<3>

From that list, the Elk post office opened in 1874.

We also found Elk in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
