Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Chetopa had an population of 1,021 people. This is a decrease of 9.24% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 20.3% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Chetopa had a population of 1,125 people (or 5.21% of the total population of Labette County). This makes Chetopa the county's 3rd most populous community.

The population of Chetopa represents 0.04% of the total population of Kansas (which has 2,853,118 people), making it the state's 185th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 1,125 people, the population of Chetopa decreased 12.18% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 1,281 people).

We originally found mention of Chetopa in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Chetopa was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Chetopa post office opened in 1867.

We also found Chetopa in the book titled List of Post Offices in the United States (1870).
