While we don't have a date for the founding of Americus, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was in a book dated 1895.

The origin (or the toponymy) of Americus: Named after "Americus Vespucius", the Latinised form of Amerigo Vespucci (1454-1512).

From the  Census Estimates for 2019, Americus has a population of 878 people<2> (see below for details).

Americus is 1,150 feet [351 m] above sea level.<3>.

Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Americus had an population of 878 people. This is a decrease of 1.79% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 6.4% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Americus had a population of 894 people. This makes Americus the county's 2nd most populous community.

The population of Americus represents 0.03% of the total population of Kansas (which has 2,853,118 people), making it the state's 213rd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 894 people, the population of Americus decreased 4.69% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 938 people).
