While our initial information about Prairie City came from various goverment sources (GNIS, FIPS), we also found mention of Prairie City in various books and other sources.

Services available in 1895: had a Post Office, a Railroad Station, an Express Office

Prairie City is contained in a comprehensive list of Post Offices that was created by Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<1>
