The Commemorative Quarter for Iowa

Welcome to Amador ...

So far, we found very little information about Amador. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Amador to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Amador - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Amador, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Amador , we believe that it would have been located within present day Wapello County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Amador, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was in a book dated 1895.

Time Zone: The area where Amador was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

If Amador still existed, it would have been in the (641) area code.

Communities Also Named Amador ...

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are 4 communities that are also named Amador - they are located in Kansas, Minnesota, Montana and Nevada.

Adding Amador to Our Gazetteer ...

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Amador was in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).

We also found Amador on a map (with an unknown title) dated 1905.

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Amador, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Iowa's counties, including Wapello, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
