Welcome to Lebanon ...

So far, we found very little information about Lebanon. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Lebanon to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. If you can help us with Lebanon, please Contact Us.

Lebanon would have been located within present day Sumter County<2>.

The location of Lebanon has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (ie- the GNIS).<3>

When the people of Lebanon referred to themselves (known as a demonym), they are believed to have used Lebanonian<4>

While the community is gone, the present day location for Lebanon is 510 feet [155 m] above sea level.<5>.

Time Zone: The area where Lebanon was located is in the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT) and observes daylight saving time

Note: If you travel west from Lebanon (for example, toward Eufaula (AL)), you will leave Eastern Time and cross into the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT).

If Lebanon still existed, it would have been in the (229) area code.

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Lebanon, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Georgia's counties, including Sumter, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
<3>The location has been supplied by the Geographic Names Information System - which is maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). While these values should be definitive, we found that accuracy can vary and you should double-check the location if accuracy is required.
<4>A demonym is the name for a resident of a community which is usually derived from (or is related to) the name of that community. In other words, it's how the residents of Lebanon refer to themselves. It's important to note that there aren't any rules for taking a community's name and turning it into a demonym. A demonym is informal and while the majority of Lebanon may use one name, keep in mind that others may use something different.
<5>The elevation is an estimate for the area around Lebanon - it will be higher in some places and lower in others.
