At the time of the 2010 Census, Americus had a population of 17,041 people (which is 52.14% of the total population of Sumter County). This makes Americus the county's most populous community.

The population of Americus represents 0.18% of the population of Georgia (which has 9,687,653 people), making it the state's 46th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 17,041 people, the population of Americus has remained roughly the same as the 2000 Census (with a count of 17,013 people).
