While we don't have a date for the founding of Saguache, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1867.

The town was incorporated August 13, 1891.

From the  Census Estimates for 2019, Saguache has a population of 530 people<3> (see below for details).

Saguache is 7,700 feet [2,347 m] above sea level.<4> In other words, the elevation of Saguache is about 1½ mile [or ~2¼ km] above sea level.

Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Saguache had an population of 530 people. This is an increase of 9.28% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 8.3% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Saguache had a population of 485 people (or 7.94% of the total population of Saguache County). This makes Saguache the county's 2nd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 485 people, the population of Saguache decreased 16.09% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 578 people).

We originally found mention of Saguache in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Saguache was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Saguache post office opened in 1867.

We also found Saguache in the book titled List of Post Offices in the United States (1870).
