At the time of the 2010 Census, Truckee had a population of 16,180 people (or 16.38% of the total population of Nevada County). This makes Truckee the county's most populous community.

The population of Truckee represents 0.04% of the total population of California (which has 37,253,956 people), making it the state's 315th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 16,180 people, the population of Truckee increased 16.71% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 13,864 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Truckee was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Truckee post office opened in 1868.
