The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Patchen was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<4>

From that list, the Patchen post office opened in 1872 and with the post office name of Patchin.

We also found Patchen in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
