Kennett was established in 1884. The community was inundated by Lake Shasta in 1944.

The origin (or the toponymy) of Kennett: Named after Squire Kennett.

While the community is gone, the present day location for Kennett is 1,060 feet [323 m] above sea level.<3>.

Time Zone: The area where Kennett was located is in the Pacific Time Zone (PST/PDT) and observes daylight saving time

We originally found mention of Kennett in the GNIS. For more information, see the Referenced GNIS Codes section on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found (so far) for Kennett was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Kennett post office opened in 1886. The Kennett post office closed in 1942.
