The community of Nevada City is the Seat for Nevada County.

Nevada County was founded in 1851 and was created by taking area from YubaCounty.

From the Census Estimates for 2009, <1> Nevada had a population of 97,751 people. This is an increase of 6.21% since the last Census (which gave a population of 92,033 people in 2000).

At the time of the 2000 Census, Nevada represented 0.27% of the total population of California, making it the state's 36th most populous county (out of 58 counties).
