At the time of the 2010 Census, Alameda had a population of 73,812 people. This makes Alameda the county's 7th most populous community.

The population of Alameda represents 0.2% of the total population of California (which has 37,253,956 people), making it the state's 108th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 73,812 people, the population of Alameda increased 2.15% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 72,259 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Alameda was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Alameda post office opened in 1854.
