Stone County was founded in 1873. Stone was created by taking area from Izard, Independence, Searcy and Van Buren Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Stone had a population of 12,506 people. This is an increase of 0.94% since the last Census (which gave a population of 12,389 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Stone represented 0.42% of the total population of Arkansas.
