Welcome to Shafter Lake ...So far, we found very little information about Shafter Lake. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1> We've added Shafter Lake to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. If you can help us with Shafter Lake, please Contact Us. Shafter Lake was located in the Texas Panhandle. Shafter Lake would have been located within present day Andrews County<2>. The location of Shafter Lake has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (ie- the GNIS).<3> While we don't have a date for the founding of Shafter Lake, you might consider that their post office opened in 1907. A typical abbreviation for Shafter Lake: Shafter Lk. While the community is gone, the present day location for Shafter Lake is 3,160 feet [963 m] above sea level.<4> In other words, the altitude of Shafter Lake is about ½ mile above sea level. Time Zone: The area where Shafter Lake was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time Note: If you travel west from Shafter Lake (for example, toward Eunice (NM)), you will leave Central Time and cross into the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT).
