Welcome to Tyrone ...So far, we found very little information about Tyrone. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1> We've added Tyrone to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. If you can help us with Tyrone, please Contact Us. Tyrone was located in southwest New Mexico. Tyrone would have been located within present day Grant County<2>. The location of Tyrone has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (ie- the GNIS).<3> While we don't have a date for the founding of Tyrone, you might consider that their post office opened in 1906. While the community is gone, the present day location for Tyrone is 5,740 feet [1,750 m] above sea level.<4> In other words, the elevation of Tyrone is about 1 mile [or 1¾ km] above sea level. Time Zone: The area where Tyrone was located is in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and observes daylight saving time Note: If you travel west from Tyrone (for example, toward Duncan (AZ)), you will leave Mountain Time and cross into the Mountain Standard Time Zone (MST). In addition, you will be moving from an area that observes daylight saving time to one that does not. Tyrone would have been located in the (575) area code.
