The village of Maxwell is located in northeast New Mexico.

The location of Maxwell has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (ie- the GNIS).<2>


While we don't have a date for the founding of Maxwell, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was in a book dated 1895.

From the  Census Estimates for 2019, Maxwell has a population of 216 people<3> (see below for details).

The community of Maxwell is 5,920 feet [1,804 m] above sea level.<4> In other words, the elevation of Maxwell is about 1¼ mile [or ~1¾ km] above sea level.

Time Zone: Maxwell lies in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and observes daylight saving time

Population Details ...

Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Maxwell had an population of 216 people. This is a decrease of 14.96% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 21.17% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Maxwell had a population of 254 people. This makes Maxwell the county's 6th most populous community.

The population of Maxwell represents 0.01% of the population of New Mexico (which has 2,059,179 people), making it the state's 82nd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 254 people, the population of Maxwell decreased 7.3% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 274 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Maxwell was in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
