Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Wheeling had an population of 26,597 people. This is a decrease of 6.63% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 15.35% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Wheeling had a population of 28,486 people (or 64.05% of the total population of Ohio County). This makes Wheeling the county's most populous community.

The population of Wheeling represents 1.54% of the total population of West Virginia (which has 1,852,994 people), making it the state's 5th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 28,486 people, the population of Wheeling decreased 9.34% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 31,419 people).

We originally found mention of Wheeling in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Wheeling was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Wheeling post office opened in 1794.

We also found Wheeling in the book titled List of Post Offices in the United States (1870).
