Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Weirton had an population of 18,269 people. This is a decrease of 7.48% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 10.49% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Weirton had a population of 19,746 people (which is 64.36% of the total population of Hancock County). This makes Weirton the county's most populous community.

The population of Weirton represents 1.07% of the population of West Virginia (which has 1,852,994 people), making it the state's 6th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 19,746 people, the population of Weirton decreased 3.26% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 20,411 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Weirton was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Weirton post office opened in 1910.

We also found Weirton on a map titled Rand McNally Map of West Virginia (1911).
