While our initial data about Chesapeake came from various goverment sources (GNIS, US Census, FIPS), we also found mention of Chesapeake in various books, maps and other sources. When we find a mention, a fact or snippet, we add that information to our Gazetter.

Chesapeake is contained in a comprehensive list of Post Offices that was created by Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<1>

From that list:

The Chesapeake post office opened in 1915 and had closed by 1961.
