Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Bluefield had an population of 9,632 people. This is a decrease of 7.8% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 15.89% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Bluefield had a population of 10,447 people (or 16.78% of the total population of Mercer County). This makes Bluefield the county's most populous community.

The population of Bluefield represents 0.56% of the population of West Virginia (which has 1,852,994 people), making it the state's 14th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 10,447 people, the population of Bluefield decreased 8.77% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 11,451 people).
