At the time of the 2010 Census, Mequon had a population of 23,132 people (which is 26.77% of the total population of Ozaukee County). This makes Mequon the county's most populous community.

The population of Mequon represents 0.41% of the total population of Wisconsin (which has 5,686,986 people), making it the state's 36th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 23,132 people, the population of Mequon increased 6% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 21,823 people).

We originally found mention of Mequon in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Mequon was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<5>

From that list, the Mequon post office opened in 1882.

We also found Mequon in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
