The community of Waterville is the Seat for Douglas County.

Douglas County was founded in 1883 and was created by taking area from Lincoln County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Douglas had a population of 43,429 people. This is an increase of 12.76% since the last Census (which gave a population of 38,514 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Douglas represented 0.57% of the total population of Washington.
