At the time of the 2010 Census, Burlington had a population of 42,417 people (or 27.1% of the total population of Chittenden County). This makes Burlington the county's most populous community.

The population of Burlington represents 6.78% of the total population of Vermont (which has 625,741 people), making it the state's most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 42,417 people, the population of Burlington increased 9.07% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 38,889 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Burlington was in the book titled Table of U.S. Post Offices in the United States (Jan. 1851).
