Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Richmond had an population of 231,027 people. This is an increase of 13.13% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 16.8% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Richmond had a population of 204,214 people.

The population of Richmond represents 2.55% of the total population of Virginia (which has 8,001,024 people), making it the state's 5th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 204,214 people, the population of Richmond increased 3.25% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 197,790 people).
