The origin (or the toponymy) of Orem: Named after Walter C. Orem (1873-1951), President of the Salt Lake and Utah Railroad.

Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Orem had an population of 97,834 people. This is an increase of 10.76% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 16.02% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Orem had a population of 88,328 people (or 16.99% of the total population of Utah County). This makes Orem the county's 2nd most populous community.

The population of Orem represents 3.2% of the population of Utah (which has 2,763,885 people), making it the state's 5th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 88,328 people, the population of Orem increased 4.75% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 84,324 people).

We originally found mention of Orem in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Orem was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Orem post office opened in 1943.
