Adding Emmaville to Our Gazetteer ...

As we work on our Gazetteer, we occasionally find mention of a community that is new to us. When we find such a community, we add it to our Gazetteer with the hope of adding more information in the future.

The earliest source (so far) we've referenced which mentioned Emmaville was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<5>

From that list, the Emmaville post office opened in 1871. The Emmaville post office closed in 1871.

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Emmaville, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Utah's counties, including Salt Lake, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
<3>When there's a risk of an area code running out of phone numbers, an 'Overlay Area Code' is created that has the same geographic boundaries as the existing area code. In this case, the 801 code has been Overlayed with the 385 area code. New phone numbers in the Emmaville area will be assigned with one of these codes: 801 or 385. As a result, placing a call in the Emmaville area will require 10-digit dialing (where you enter both the area code and then the phone number).
