Welcome to Argenta (aka 'Camp Carr') ...

So far, we found very little information about Argenta. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Argenta to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Argenta - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Argenta, please Contact Us.

While we don't have the exact location of Argenta <3>, we believe that it would have been located within present day Salt Lake County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Argenta, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1879.

Time Zone: The area where Argenta was located is in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and observes daylight saving time

If Argenta still existed, it would have been in the (801) and (385)<4> area codes.

The community of Argenta has also been called Camp Carr.

Adding Argenta to Our Gazetteer ...

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Argenta was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<5>

From that list, the Argenta post office opened in 1879.

We also found Argenta in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Argenta, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Utah's counties, including Salt Lake, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
<3>Argenta is also known as Camp Carr. For more information, please visit our Genealogy Helper Page for Argenta.
<4>Area code (385) is an overlay for area code (801).
