We spend a lot of time looking through Gazetteers that were published in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Many of the Gazetteers include the distance from a town such as South Padre Island to various places of note, such as the White House.

  • Brownsville [Map], which is the Seat of Cameron County, lies 19 miles [30.6 km] to the West Southwest. If you could walk a straight line from South Padre Island to Brownsville, with an average speed<2> of 2.2 miles [3.5 km] per hour, it would take just over a day to make the trip. Walt 'No Neck' Williams

Major League Baseball. He was born in Brownsville (Texas) on Sunday December 19, 1943 and died in Abilene (Texas) on Saturday January 23, 2016 at an age of 72. He was buried at Greenleaf Cemetery (Brown County, Texas) [Map].
