The Commemorative Quarter for Texas

Introduction ...

Although we found mention of Midway during our research,<1> we don't have its physical location (ie- latitude and longitude). Until we find that information, we're unable to give a list of nearby cemeteries.

If you can help with the location of Midway or know of a cemetery that we should include in our Gazetteer, please let us know.

In the case of a cemetery, we are looking for information such as its name, its GPS location, whether the cemetery is still in use or if it is historic (ie- defunct, abandoned, etc.). If it applies, we would also like to learn of any past or alternate names that the cemetery has been known by.

If you don't know the GPS location (ie- the latitude/longitude) of a cemetery, please use our Map Page for Midway to determine the cemetery's position (the instructions for finding the latitude/longitude can be found below the map).

If you need information about a burial or interment, photos, transcripts, how to contact the cemetery or local authorities, please visit our list of websites on our Genealogy Helper Page for Midway.

Footnotes ...

<1>If we encounter the name of what might be a community, our methodology is to add that name to our Gazetteer. For example, we might find a sentence like "He went north past Midway and then turned west". While Midway could be some kind of landmark, we think that it's more likely to be a community. We've added Midway as a placeholder with the hope that we'll be able to add more information in the future.

Just as a reminder: Our definition of a community is rather broad and includes those places (or areas) where several families lived and had a name which identified that place. For example, you might hear somebody say that they are going over to Miller Creek to see Pete ... Miller Creek is just a gas station and a couple of homes at the crossroads. While it might not be on the map, everybody in the area knows it by that name.

Places of interest include buildings at a crossroad, several families clustered in a hollow or maybe the location of a way station. It also includes places like mines, lumber camps, ferry crossings, etc. The community might still exist, is now gone or only existed for just a short period of time.

Also keep in mind that Midway could have been on the original document by mistake, misspelled, the original/alternate name of a community that we've listed elsewhere or was placed in the wrong county. Sometimes a post office or train station would have a different name than the community where it's located, so two names might be referring to the same community - we're working to straighten it all out.

Just in case there has been confusion between counties, we found that there are 27 Texas communities also named Midway. While this community is located in Bexar County, the others are located in the following counties: Bell, Brazoria, Cass, Crockett, Dawson, Fannin, Hamilton, Hill, Howard, Hunt, Jim Wells, Lavaca, Leon, Limestone, Lubbock, Madison, Montgomery, Nueces, Polk, Red River, San Patricio, Scurry, Smith, Starr, Titus, Upshur and Van Zandt.
