We aren't confident of the location of Maverick, so consider the above location to be an estimate.<3> While we don't have a date for the founding of Maverick, you might consider that their post office opened in 1883. The origin (or the toponymy) of Maverick: The named for Samuel Augustus Maverick, an early settler in the area. While the community is gone, the present day location for Maverick is 1,740 feet [530 m] above sea level.<4>.
