Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Kilgore had an population of 14,858 people. This is an increase of 14.51% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 31.48% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Kilgore had a population of 12,975 people (or 10.66% of the total population of Gregg County). This makes Kilgore the county's 2nd most populous community.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Kilgore was on a map titled Map of Texas (from Rand McNally, 1911).

We also found Kilgore in the book titled .<8> From that list, the Kilgore post office opened in 1873.
