Welcome to Etna ...

So far, we found very little information about Etna. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Etna to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We would especially like to find the location of Etna - knowing its coordinates, we can explore things like its relationship to neighboring communities, nearby cemeteries, etc. If you can help us with Etna, please Contact Us.

Etna was located in the Piney Woods (East Texas).

While we don't have the exact location of Etna , we believe that it would have been located within present day Cherokee County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Etna, you might consider that their post office opened in 1881.

Time Zone: The area where Etna was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are 30 communities that are also named Etna - they are located in Arkansas, California, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana (2), Nebraska, Nevada (2), New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio (2), Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee (2), Utah, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

Adding Etna to Our Gazetteer ...

As we work on our Gazetteer, we occasionally find mention of a community that is new to us. When we find such a community, we add it to our Gazetteer with the hope of adding more information in the future.

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Etna was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<3>

From that list, the Etna post office opened in 1881.
