Real County was founded in 1913. Real was created by taking area from Bandera, Edwards and Kerr Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Real had a population of 3,452 people. This is an increase of 3.91% since the last Census (which gave a population of 3,322 people in 2010).
