Buchanan was located Buchanan would have been located within present day Johnson County<2>. The location of Buchanan has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (ie- the GNIS).<3> While we don't have a date for the founding of Buchanan, you might consider that their post office opened in 1857. While the community is gone, the present day location for Buchanan is 880 feet [268 m] above sea level.<4>. Time Zone: The area where Buchanan was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are two Texas communities named Buchanan: This one is located in Johnson County and the other is located in Bowie County.
