Welcome to Africa ...

So far, we found very little information about Africa. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

We've added Africa to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. If you can help us with Africa, please Contact Us.

Africa was located on the Gulf Coast.

Africa would have been located within present day Liberty County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Africa, you might consider that their post office opened in 1880.

Time Zone: The area where Africa was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

Adding Africa to Our Gazetteer ...

The earliest source (so far) we've referenced which mentioned Africa was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<4>

From that list, the Africa post office opened in 1880. The Africa post office closed in 1883.

For more details, see References and Mentions for Africa.

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Africa, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Texas' counties, including Liberty, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
