So far, we found very little information about Shellmound. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

Shellmound would have been located within present day Marion County<2>.


The location of Shellmound has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (ie- the GNIS).<3>


While we don't have a date for the founding of Shellmound, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1879.

While the community is gone, the present day location for Shellmound is 630 feet [192 m] above sea level.<4>.

Time Zone: The area where Shellmound was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

Note: If you travel south from Shellmound (for example, toward Menlo (GA)), you will soon leave Central Time and cross into the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT).

We originally found mention of Shellmound in the GNIS. For more information, see the Referenced GNIS Codes section on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Shellmound was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Shellmound post office opened in 1879.

We also found Shellmound in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
