At the time of the 2010 Census, Monteagle had a population of 1,192 people (or 8.68% of the total population of Grundy County). This makes Monteagle the county's 5th most populous community.

The population of Monteagle represents 0.02% of the total population of Tennessee (which has 6,346,105 people), making it the state's 222nd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 1,192 people, the population of Monteagle decreased 3.72% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 1,238 people).
