The community of Altamont is the Seat for Grundy County.

Grundy County was founded in 1844. Grundy was created by taking area from Coffee, Warren and Franklin Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Grundy had a population of 13,409 people. This is a decrease of 2.15% since the last Census (which gave a population of 13,703 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Grundy represented 0.22% of the total population of Tennessee.
