Time Zone: Putnam County lies in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time.

The community of Cookeville is the Seat for Putnam County.

Putnam County was founded in 1854. Putnam was created by taking area from Fentress, Jackson, Smith, White and Overton Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Putnam had a population of 79,957 people. This is an increase of 10.56% since the last Census (which gave a population of 72,321 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Putnam represented 1.14% of the total population of Tennessee.

While it makes interesting reading all by itself, it should be of special interest to genealogists and family historians looking for people who were either affected by or directly involved in such tragedies.
