Knox County was founded in 1792. Knox was created by taking area from Greene and Hawkins Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Knox had a population of 470,137 people. This is an increase of 8.77% since the last Census (which gave a population of 432,226 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Knox represented 6.81% of the total population of Tennessee.
