Grainger County was founded in 1796. Grainger was created by taking area from Hawkins and Knox Counties. From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Grainger had a population of 23,320 people. This is an increase of 2.64% since the last Census (which gave a population of 22,721 people in 2010). At the time of the 2010 Census, Grainger represented 0.36% of the total population of Tennessee.
