While we don't have a date for the founding of Edgemont, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1892.

Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Edgemont had an population of 718 people. This is a decrease of 7.24% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 17.19% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Edgemont had a population of 774 people (which is 10.88% of the total population of Fall River County). This makes Edgemont the county's 3rd most populous community.

The population of Edgemont represents 0.1% of the population of South Dakota (which has 814,180 people), making it the state's 109th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 774 people, the population of Edgemont decreased 10.73% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 867 people).

We originally found mention of Edgemont in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Edgemont was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Edgemont post office opened in 1892.

We also found Edgemont in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
