Time Zone: Oglala Lakota County lies in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and observes daylight saving time.

Oglala Lakota County was founded in 1875 and was created by taking area from Fall River County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Oglala Lakota had a population of 14,171 people. This is an increase of 4.31% since the last Census (which gave a population of 13,586 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Oglala Lakota represented 1.67% of the total population of South Dakota.
