The community of Sturgis is the Seat for Meade County.
Meade County was founded in 1889 and was created by taking area from Lawrence County.
From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Meade had a population of 28,469 people. This is an increase of 11.93% since the last Census (which gave a population of 25,434 people in 2010).
At the time of the 2010 Census, Meade represented 3.12% of the total population of South Dakota.
