Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Brandon had an population of 10,116 people. This is an increase of 15.15% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 77.69% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Brandon had a population of 8,785 people (which is 5.17% of the total population of Minnehaha County). This makes Brandon the county's 2nd most populous community.

The population of Brandon represents 1.08% of the total population of South Dakota (which has 814,180 people), making it the state's 14th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 8,785 people, the population of Brandon increased 54.31% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 5,693 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Brandon was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Brandon post office opened in 1878.

We also found Brandon in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
