Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Aurora had an population of 842 people. This is an increase of 58.27% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 68.4% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Aurora had a population of 532 people. This makes Aurora the county's 4th most populous community.

The population of Aurora represents 0.07% of the total population of South Dakota (which has 814,180 people), making it the state's 148th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 532 people, the population of Aurora increased 6.4% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 500 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Aurora was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Aurora post office opened in 1880.

We also found Aurora in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
